BACKGROUND: In 2015, the city hired Dewberry Architects, Inc. to assess the fire stations for their overall condition. Dewberry provided a report to the city in January of 2016 detailing the work that was needed at the seven (7) fire stations. The report indicated that stations 1, 2, 4 & 6 needed updates but were in good enough condition to continue using with their recommended updates. Stations 3, 5 & 7 needed to be replaced with new stations, at new sites.
Site selection was completed for the new station 3 in 2019. The City Council approved the location and the purchase of the land. The fire department has consulted with Dewberry to design the model fire station concept for the three stations to be rebuilt.
The proposed professional services agreement envisions that the city will arrange for performance of its own MBE monitoring, and that staff will return to the City Council later in 2020 with an amendment of this contract to support a new station #7.
