| | | | | | | | | SUBJECT: Request for increase in the current maximum rate garbage haulers may charge for residential service to properties containing six units or less of $3 per month this year and 50 cents per year in each of the next three years. |

| | | | | | | | | SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends approval of the attached ordinance amendment. |

| | | | | | | | | BACKGROUND: Local garbage haulers are privately owned companies licensed through the City of Decatur with the city setting the maximum rates that can be charged by haulers and defining the areas within which haulers operate. The City last adjusted rates in 2010-2011 as part of a large scale overhaul of the garbage and recycling system. During this period, haulers indicate that operating costs have continued to rise.
If approved, the attached amendment would provide a $3 per month increase to haulers as listed in the attached schedule and increases of 50 cents per year in 2019, 2020 and 2021. |
